DM500 hanging with bizarre behaviour

We have a DM500 with DIGITAL DERAM written on it. I am having an issue that it gets into a situation where it behaves normally, you can move the machine around, browse files, etc. but if you run any file it will just hang, and the only way to get it to do something else is to power cycle it.

It seems to pollute USB memory sticks the first time it hangs, so that if it once went wrong with this memory stick it will never work with that stick again, no matter  how you format or repartition the stick it still won't work whatever gcode you give it, but often a new memory stick will.  

Are there any firmware updates that could fix this or is it likely to be a hardware issue? It is currently on a 2018 version of the firmware

Also, you can try another U disk. The file format of the U disk must be FAT format.

Thanks I will try the firmware upgrade.

I have tried many USB memory sticks (all FAT32), and they work for a bit until the DM500 crashes, then they stop working. It is getting expensive in USB sticks.

Can you check if the USB port has poor contact?
If there is vibration during processing, the system will freeze. There may be a problem with the hardware, you can consider replacing the hardware!
