Qcells was created in Germany's Solar Valley in 1999 and quickly became the industry leader in solar cell research and development. The South Korean firm Hanwha Group acquired Qcells in 2012, changing its name to Hanwha Qcells in the process. Its headquarters are in Seoul, South Korea, but the company continues to operate its design and engineering departments out of Thalheim, Germany.
