The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (Leea) led a group of member companies to the UK’s House of Commons, London, on 12 July 2023 to explain the role the lifting industry plays and to convey how lifting is everywhere – in any sector and all corners of the world, involving every kind of project – large or small.

Leea CEO Ross Moloney and chair Kat Moss welcomed a group of MPs to the Jubilee Room for Leea’s Parliamentary Event, where table-top displays were hosted by Leea member companies and organisations DLM, Crosby, Rigging Services, Nucleus Learning, and The White Ensign Group. The association was also represented by Derek Buck, to explain the work of Leea’s technical services, and member engagement manager Robert Wilson, who hosted the Leea stand. Moss was also able to explain the work of the LEEA Academy 2.0.

A roster of MPs attended: Caroline Nokes, MP for Romsey and Southampton North; James Morris, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis; Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire; Nigel Mills, MP for Amber Valley; Jonathan Djanogly, MP for Huntingdon; David Duguid, MP for Banff and Buchan; Mark Menzies, MP for Fylde; Gary Sambrook, MP for Birmingham Northfield; Andrew Murrison, MP for South West Wiltshire; Mark Fletcher, MP for Bolsover; and Kim Leadbeater, MP for Batley and Spen.

Key messages at the event included how safety underpins everything Leea has been doing throughout its almost 80-year history and will continue to do going forward. With zero accidents and injuries from working at height being a prime goal, members around the world are united in the desire to make the industry safe. It was also a chance to explain how the industry is always innovating, with constantly developing technologies – including AI, virtual reality simulation, condition and load monitoring, remote control and anti-collision systems – spreading throughout the sector to reduce risk from working at height. Leea also had an opportunity to explain how it is focused on solving the challenge of finding the next generation of lifting engineers
