Rockstar Games is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) as not only the largest video game release of the decade, but also as a potential metaverse platform, expanding its iconic series into a creator-driven universe.
As the release date approaches, Rockstar is reportedly in talks with top creators from platforms like Roblox, Fortnite, and popular GTA content producers. These discussions focus on the possibility of allowing creators to build custom experiences within GTA 6, offering them the opportunity to modify the game’s world and assets to include their own intellectual property (IP), and possibly integrate brand sponsorships into the game’s expansive virtual environment.
While the details are still vague, sources familiar with these discussions suggest that creators would benefit from this collaboration through exposure within one of the most widely played gaming properties in the world. However, it remains unclear whether there will be direct financial incentives, such as a share of revenue from virtual item sales, similar to other metaverse platforms where creators can monetize their content.
Examining GTA 5’s creator ecosystem sheds light on the potential direction of GTA 6. Even 14 years after its launch, GTA 5 remains the most-watched game on Twitch, largely due to the thriving community within FiveM, a modification that allows players to host and join custom multiplayer servers. Despite initially banning FiveM creators in 2015, Rockstar acquired the company in 2023, signaling a shift towards embracing this player-driven content creation model.
Pete Basgen, WPP agency’s global gaming and esports lead, believes Rockstar’s acquisition of FiveM is part of a broader strategy to establish a metaversal universe filled with custom-built experiences and a user-generated content (UGC) economy. Basgen suggests that GTA 6 could become a prime destination for players transitioning from platforms like Roblox and Minecraft, offering them a more sophisticated space for interaction and content creation.
Unlike platforms like Roblox or Fortnite, FiveM servers generate revenue by charging users subscription fees, which can range from $25 to $100 per month. This model has allowed creators to earn significant amounts by offering custom in-game items and exclusive access to servers, with FiveM taking a portion of the subscription income. This subscription-based system is a unique feature that other metaverse platforms currently lack.
Chris Hopper, COO of talent management firm Loaded, which manages the GTA role-playing server Prodigy RP, emphasizes the differences between GTA and platforms like Roblox and Minecraft. Hopper points out that the core of GTA RP lies in player-to-player interaction, rather than just gameplay, offering a more mature and nuanced experience for creators and players alike.
Despite historically avoiding in-game advertising or real-world brands, Rockstar may be open to new monetization avenues for GTA 6, particularly considering the rumored $2 billion production budget. If Rockstar embraces UGC in a meaningful way, it could be a game-changer for the gaming industry.
Chad Mustard, COO of UGC gaming studio JOGO, echoes this sentiment, highlighting the massive demand for creator-driven content and the economic potential that GTA 6 could unlock. Mustard and others are eager to dive into what could be an unprecedented opportunity for UGC studios, as GTA 6 presents a momentous opportunity for both game creators and players alike.

As GTA 6 prepares to reshape the gaming landscape, its future as a metaverse platform may not only change the way we play, but also how we create and experience virtual worlds.
As Fortnite continues to captivate millions of players with its innovative events and game modes, many are looking to enhance their gaming experience even further. For those interested in upgrading their Fortnite Accounts, the Z2U website offers a reliable platform to Buy Fortnite Accounts Cheap. Whether you're looking for rare skins, exclusive items, or high-level accounts, Z2U.COM has a variety of options available. Additionally, if you're looking to sell your own Fortnite accounts, the site also offers a marketplace for FN Accounts For Sale, making it easier for players to trade and acquire the accounts they desire.
