Tanzania International Container Terminal Services (TICTS) received a new USD 9M quay crane and a new rubber tyred gantry crane last week. Local media announced that the purchase is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its role as the country’s premier maritime gateway to Eastern, Central and Southern Africa. The new quay crane has the ability to extend over 14 container rows across, has a heavy lift capacity of 35t, and can lift two empty TEU simultaneously. It brings the total number of quay cranes at TICTS to five. TICTS is a member of the Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) Group, a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa Limited (HWL), a Hong Kong based conglomerate and a leading port investor, developer and operator.
